National Institute of Physics

The National Institute of Physics (NIP) is a unit of cooperation and scientific coordination in various fields of physics, with the mission of promoting knowledge and scientific truth, protecting public health, cultural heritage, environmental and material, promoting technology and innovation, improving university study programs, physics development as a fundamental science, in cooperation with Institutes, Academies and other genuine scientific institutions. NIP operates mainly through the website www.ikf-akad.al, Academy of Sciences of Albania.

NIP aims to promote the most contemporary knowledge in the field of physics throughout the Albanian speaking lands, facilitate the communication and cooperation between Albanian physicists around the world, increase access and connectivity between Albanian and foreign physicists, support Albanian excellence in research and teaching, with young talents on focus. NIP aims to create an active and authoritative voice in the national physics environment and to serve as the center of the Albanian community of physics graduates. The focus of NIP activities is also undergraduate physics, through cooperation and promotion of critical thinking among main actors, in favor of improving physics teaching; through activities such as certified teachers’ trainings; through the inclusion of physics teachers and talented students in active groups for the popularization of science.

Third International Conference of NIP

The Third International Conference organized by NIP, 2-3 June 2025

Following the established tradition, the National Institute of Physics (NIP, www.ikf-akad.al), with the support of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, is organizing its Third Conference on June 2-3, 2025.

This announcement also serves as an invitation to all interested physicists to participate in this scientific event. The conference will be held in a hybrid format, with both in-person and online participation. Registration is free of charge. The official languages of communication will be English and Albanian.

NIP aims to promote contemporary knowledge and excellence in the field of physics across all regions where Albanian physicists work, both within and beyond national borders. The goal of the conference is to disseminate scientific research findings and the most up-to-date achievements in physics, including education; to strengthen collaboration between Albanian and non-Albanian physicists; and to expand NIP with new members. Since 2025 has been declared the International Year of Quantum Technology, the conference will focus on major advancements in this central field of physics.

The conference will feature presentations from invited physicists, both Albanian and international.

The event will take place in Tirana, at the premises of the Academy of Sciences of Albania. To register, please download the Abstract Template below and submit your abstract via email to: konferencaikf@ikf-akad.al

The registration deadline is May 4, 2025.

This year the school will be dedicated to a larger spectrum of  applications in Physics, such as Condensed Matter Physics and Solid State Matter.

This fifth edition is organized by the National Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences of Albania and the Department of Physics, FNS, UT; with the support of the Polytechnic of Bari and the International Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), Bari section.

The school includes lectures and hands-on tutorials on the topics in focus, with the keyword being data analysis. It will be held from 22-26 January 2024. Application deadline is December 15, 2023; the registration is free of charge and at the end of this school an attendance certificate will be provided for all participants.

Applications are welcome from students worldwide with preference given those from the Balkan region.

Second International Conference of NIP

The Second International Conference organized by NIP, 28-29 April 2023

Following the success of the First Conference in February 2022, the National Institute of Physics (NIP, www.ikf-akad.al), with the support of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, will organize its Second Conference in April 28-29, 2023.

This announcement acts at the same time as an invitation to you and other interested physicists to participate in this scientific activity. The conference will be held in a mixed format, with both on-site and online participation. Registration is free of charge. The communication and presentations will be in English and Albanian.

NIP aims to promote modern knowledge and excellence in physics within Albania and internationally, wherever Albanian physicists work. Key goals of the conference include the dissemination of research accomplishments in the context of the latest developments in physics (including teaching), the consolidation of a cooperation network between Albanian and foreign physicists, as well as the expansion of NIP through new memberships. The conference will include plenary lectures from invited Albanian and foreign physicists, with a  special session dedicated to physics teaching methodologies. The conference will be held in the Albanian Academy of Sciences, Tirana.
